MindMoments began with a simple realization: small moments can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
For Hasene DeviNirmalraj, that realization grew from the relationships she formed while volunteering with older adults. Over time, the seniors she spent time with became more than people she volunteered alongside—they became people she looked forward to seeing, listening to, and learning from. Their stories, their laughter, and even the smallest conversations became moments she carried with her.
But eventually, some of the seniors she had grown especially close to began transitioning to a dementia care center.
One of them was someone Hasene had formed a particularly meaningful connection with. Watching someone she cared about experience such a profound change stayed with her. In some of the seniors she met, she began to see her own grandmother—and she started thinking about how much of who we are is held within the memories, connections, and experiences created throughout our lives.

It made her wonder: Could the small moments we experience every day actually make a difference in the health of our brains?
A childhood song can bring back a memory from decades ago. A familiar movement can remind someone of a place they once lived. A favorite game can spark laughter and conversation. Learning something new can challenge the brain to make new connections. A simple conversation can strengthen a sense of connection and belonging.
What may seem like an ordinary moment can be an extraordinary opportunity for the brain.
Hasene realized that supporting brain health doesn't always have to happen through something complicated. It can happen through the things that make life enjoyable- playing, moving, remembering, learning, laughing, and connecting with others.
And that became the idea behind MindMoments.
MindMoments was created with the belief that brain health is not something we should only think about when something goes wrong. It is something we can nurture throughout our lives, through the moments we create every day.
Because a game can be more than a game when it brings a memory back.
A movement can be more than a movement when it brings a smile.
A conversation can be more than a conversation when it creates connection.
And a small moment can be more than a moment when it gives the brain a chance to learn, engage, and grow.
What began with Hasene's experiences volunteering with older adults has grown into a youth-led initiative dedicated to making brain health accessible, engaging, and meaningful for people of all generations.
MindMoments is built on a simple idea: the moments we create today can help shape the memories, connections, and brain health we carry with us tomorrow.
